Hi, today’s post is of a personal favourite, I call it “Bob”. It is dedicated to the renowned artist Bob Ross (R.I.P.) who is right up there in my top 5 best people ever. It is an expression of my confidence in experimenting with abstract and  based on Bob Ross’s principle that “You can do anything, it’s your world!”

I had been carving slate for a few years when chronic pain began to curtail me. Seeing Bob Ross on the”Joy of Painting” series totally inspired me to start working with oils. His whole attitude and philosophy to painting was so uplifting and encouraging.

The piece took me about 5 weeks to complete as it involved (along with the pain!) a lot of different techniques plus I found the whole process memorizing. Even now the picture still has the power to draw me in…

If the picture is not to your taste, here is a piece that I painted whilst following one of his programs.

With such pearls of wisdom as “We don’t make mistakes, we have happy little accidents” Bob Ross was the one who gave me belief in my ability to paint and for that I will always be grateful.

From tomorrow I will begin to post samples of my carved slate work. For a sneak preview go to my website http://www.mcsirishart.com/ or you can find me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mcs-Irish-Art/411037902323822
