Stand Your Ground

Hi Everyone, today’s offering is a carved and engraved slate with mirror background. I’ve always been a fan of comics, 2000 AD and the like.  I have attempted to create the clean lines of the black and white graphics which appeals to me so much in their art work.

This piece is entitled “Attitude” as it depicts a young woman in a very confident stance. The face being left blank, because, although she seems very sure of herself in this pose, in reality she has not quite developed her complete personality. This, as we all know, is etched on our features as we journey through life, adulthood and finally maturity.

Thanks for the brilliant response to my blog  and Gravatar!

I think the blank face also allows different interpretations of the attitude. Imagine a sullen pout and she looks angry. Imagine a sultry smile and she looks inviting. It’s possible that the person looking in the mirror will see their own facial expression and experience the attitude accordingly. Cool!

Thank you for the reminder that age brings us the lines and features of our personality. Maybe because I am in my mid-fifties, this idea becomes appealing? James Hillman calls it “character.”
