Faces in Spaces
Oil on Slate
75 cm x 28 cm

Hi, Hope everyone is having a good day.

Today is the first showing of my latest piece of work and I am very happy with the result. The original idea was to create a painting in one day by simple colour blending.

This type of work is ideal for me to do as it allows great freedom regarding brush strokes and the application of of paint. The method disregards the limitation that fibromyalgia strives to impose on me.

The painting on slate turned into a week long process using only oil paint, linseed oil and a fan brush.  I have found  dozen different faces and figures emerge as the finished piece is looked at, click the image and see how many appear for you!

I sincerely hopes that this  inspires you to try this method of colour blending. It’s great fun and you never know what may happen!

Hope you like 🙂

Thats really cool. I think it plays on how much of a face is required to be a face. Eyes, head, or shadows.

Thanks, yes I agree. Did you spot the little pink figure on the left and the blue skull?

      • stuffeyefind says:

Yes, thats really neat how you do that on slate. It sounds incredibly difficult.

Thanks, honestly its not so hard, first cover the slate with linseed oil(a light coat). Then apply some basic shapes & blend with a fan brush.repeat the process in layers.I think the key is to not try to paint a face for example, instead basic shapes(circles & lines & squiggles) because you will be blending the paint so much.the only limitation is not to over blend. You should try it & surprise yourself.Hope I explained it ok. 🙂

That is really cool. I was reading above, about how to go about doing this kind of painting and it sounds like a lot of fun. I might even be able to do something like that. I’m nowhere near being an artist, but it would be something new and fun to try. Being so sick all the time and trying to figure out new things to do that I’m capable of isn’t easy. I really, really like this and I hope I can try this out, myself, one day real soon. Happy New Year.:) Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you but I have been off blog for a good while. I used the time to make some adjustments to my health and to reorganise my life in general. Luckily the pain has become manageable once more. Hopefully you are faring well and I love your resolve to keep finding the joy in life, keep creating !

No worries. I totally understand, as I’ve been doing the same. Haven’t been on much, lately. We have to take that time to make the adjustments, reflect, and to take care of ourselves. So glad to hear that your pain has become manageable once again. I know it’s a rocky road and one hell of a roller coaster we ride, but it’s up to us as to whether we’re going to give up or to take the time to figure out what it is we need to do to make the changes and to just keep doing the best we can. I’m really working hard on myself and it really feels good to be doing this. The chronic diseases and pain aren’t going anywhere, it’s just how I choose to deal with it all from day to day. If we dig hard enough, no matter how bad we may feel, there is always some sort of joy to be found. Sounds like you’ve been doing some work on yourself, as well. I wish you the best on your journey, my friend.:)
